Ladies: March 14th is almost here! Are you ready…?
Just like the act of giving, love is made complete and becomes truly enjoyed when it is reciprocated. So, ladies, do you often think of ways to truly appreciate the men in your lives, to reciprocate their love and care? Have you ever considered a day specifically set aside to celebrate these wonderful men?
Take a moment; Let your mind wander.
Do you enjoy the rosy love day on February 14th, with of its love and wonderful feelings? I am sure you do! Don’t you think the men, too, deserve to have those wonderful feelings as well? That is why March 14th was introduced.
It's Guys Valentine's Day, a love day set aside for males. March 14th provides females with the opportunity to spoil the wonderful males in their lives to the fullest. This was made possible by LoveWorks® - a gift company, by revitalizing a once failed project.
An overview of March 14th
Valentine's Day for Guys is embedded in history dating back to the 1900s. it was originally set as the 'White Day' by some Asian countries like Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, etc.
The beneficiary of the love and affection showed on Valentine's Day differs strikingly between the Asian and western cultures (especially the US). The former culture has men as its major beneficiary unlike the latter.
Because of the incessant and overwhelming love men received on February 14th in those Asian countries, ‘White Day’- a month later, was set apart for men to celebrate and appreciate those wonderful females in their lives. Sort of payback.
Like many other creations, the original intent soon yields many wonderful benefits. The idea behind March 14th (to reciprocate the love shown by women on Valentine's Day) soon found roots in the Asian custom of gifting one who gave you a gift. The idea is to reciprocate the joy and love that accompanies the gesture.
Countries like the Philippines went a half-step further to modify the concept. They demanded that on March 14th, gifts be given only to those females who had given them one a month ago.
The western culture
The misconception developed over time is that the Valentine’s Day is made only for women to be shown, love. Although they may not have started or propagated the idea, being the beneficiaries, they certainly subscribed to it.
This explains the expectations that build up in their heads and a constant reminder that the official love day is coming. You dare not kill those expectations by not getting them anything or doing anything.
A recent result showed that the expenses made during the valentine season increased exponentially by over 34%, from 1948 to 2018.
This misconception is not generalized involving every woman. Of course, some women spend and spoil their man during valentine but men spend 5x more, according to a 2019 study by Yahoo.
It wasn’t long before men began noticing the metamorphosis, Valentine’s Day, originally a day to show love regardless of age or gender was slowly becoming a ladies’ day. The men started protesting and soon the world heard their cry.
How did it all start
A joke!
Yes, you read correctly. The National Guys' Valentine’s Day kicked off with a joke. Tom Birdsey a disc jockey at a Boston radio station, jokingly declared a day for men to be celebrated. That wasn’t the problem. It was a good idea, well welcomed, but the problem was the name he gave the day.
Many thought the name was offensive and inappropriate. Instead of causing a great wave of revolution and awareness among the populace that will eventually turn it into an official holiday, it was made fun of.
As you would expect, many people didn't want to talk about the day at all. Talk of a great idea gone wrong. The angriest reaction, of course, was from the religious and formal organizations; they didn't want any of it.
The idea was abandoned until 2016 when LoveWorks® decided to rename and rebrand the failed project. They revised the name and changed it to ‘National Guys Valentine’s Day’. Surprisingly that proved to be very effective as it was warmly received by everyone.
Do we need a Valentine’s Day for men?
This question has been asked by many. Another version of it is, ‘why don’t we just find a way to make the February 14th what its truly meant to be?’
In truth these questions are sensible but given the extent of the flaw, it will be wiser to set aside a whole to celebrate the amazing females we have in our lives and another whole day to appreciate the wonderful males in our lives.
Getting everyone to subscribe to March 14th is still work in progress but one that has experienced successes. Despite it not being an official public holiday yet, a lot of people talk about on the internet; major restaurants are becoming aware, shop owners, etc.
LoveWorks® deserves the praise for revitalizing March 14th.
The only way to truly appreciate them is to get on board. Celebrate that male friend of yours, that coworker, that loving father, partner, kid, etc. let them know how much they mean to you.
Ladies! It’s time to get creative. Take charge! March 14, 2020 is HERE!
